WOKSHOP 5x5. 2010 MALDIVES, Malé. Climate Change

PROBLEM:

Maldives is the lowest country on the planet with an average ground level of 1.5 meters above sea level. It is also the country with the lowest highest point in the world, at 2.3 meters.

Its geography makes this country would specially be vulnerable to the Climate Change. If the prediction of scientists is correct, Maldives could disappear during this century for raising sea level.

GOVERNMENT STRATEGY

Maldives Government is looking for a new land to buy to India or Sri Lanka in order to move its 350.000 inhabitants in next years.

SOLUTION STRATEGY:

1.-The old buildings of Malé would be the new foundation of the future city.

2.-Create a new public transport system on water and under water.

3.- Create floating islands close to the small coral islands.

4,- Design housing on pillars to protect home of raising sea level.
